Seek always Ordinary things and do those with an extraordinary heart rather to do Extraordinary things with pride.

He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

Did you seek for the help from our heavenly Father during your work today? Did you asked to be with you, while tackling a software program or while almost succeeded with closing a sale? Did you thank St. Joseph, the patron saint of workers at the end of your successful work day? Most of us will answer a yes, only when what I mentioned above is just the opposite. But, let me remind you, how beautiful it will be before you do anything, small or big, easy or complicated, to tell Jesus too when your brain transfer the signals to yourself.

My favorite part of my job is to walk around the farm house and check the grasses are long enough to cut it off. Coming back to the office, then I have to jump into my work dress and its always fun wearing those rubber boots in a farmers role. Then the next part is walking towards the workshop to take the Rasenmäher (Lawnmower). Once the benzene is filled full, I have to start from one end of the farm house. It always seems to be a procession almost 200 metres around the farm house. Once the bag is full, it has to be taken out and gather the grass behind the house close to the Farming field. Once the cutting is done, the gathered grass has to be distributed evenly on the soil, so that it gets dry and can be used when planting vegetables and fruit trees. This is one among many work I do when the office works are done for the day. It never seemed to be an extraordinary work where you need Bachelors in Lawnmower, but an ultimate ordinary work, where one can operate a simple machine. I used my hand and legs for the work and I prayed during the work. I was that I could use the time to spiritually grow rather worrying about my Career growth for the time being.

This sharing might seems silly to many and it has nothing to do with me or what I am doing but, just a thought that this might help at least one person who can relate to himself while struggling with their studies, or searching hard to find a job or working in a field which is completely different from what you have learned. And more importantly, we as Christians, he never look for perfection or standard of the work you do but rather he sees your heart. Think, and think again! Would it be a great thing to surrender yourself to the Lord’s hands rather to do everything by yourself and to be proud of yourself at the end of the day. This scenario only happens when our heavenly father wishes that, you seek help and comfort from him. And sometimes this will not happen when you are in a good position, working in a successful firm with a descent Salary. But, not in all the cases and there are people who has a successful life, really holding on to the understanding everyday, that everything I achieved was a blessing of God with my little effort. Most of the time, small things we do at work leaves memorable moments. When we give our sincere heart, everything we do will be meaningful and fruitful.

Dominic Savio, Translated from Italian by P.Anton Nosko SDB and Sr.Johanna Schepping FMA

St.Dominic Savio says, ” I am not capable of doing big things, but I want to do everything, even the smallest things for the greater glory of God”.

This was the famous quote from St. Dominic Savio. He shows us the importance of a sincere heart at work rather than to admire how the job or position is accepted in the society. The name Dominico means “of the Lord“, was fitting for the little Dominic Savio in every sense especially his sincere prayer time in solitude, that he offered the Lord since he was 4 years old. He received the first Holy Communion at the age of 7 and was mentored by St.John Bosco (Don Bosco). Four simple resolutions made by St.Dominic Savio where he said that he will go to confession often, and as frequently to holy communion as my confessor allows. Second was, that he wish to sanctify the Sundays and Festivals in a special manner. Third, that his friends shall be Jesus and Mary. Fourth one, that he wants death rather than sin. And he kept his resolutions holy until his last days. I always wonder that most of the saints who are famous became saints at their old age and here so rare on such an young age to be a saint.

My dear ones, while writing I hold on to my prayers and promise you all my little prayers. And I also ask for your prayers. Trust the Lord, if you are in an uncomfortable job situation where you are humiliated or a job which you never wished to do, then have faith and believe strongly that God is working beside you for a bigger reason, for your spiritual growth, to save the lost souls working with you. And do what you are suppose to do, but your real employer from heaven is working with you for a much bigger project. Let your guardian angel be with you and Oh Lord, I want to be where everyone else will be, that is Heaven. Amen.
